Merrimack Valley Philharmonic Spring Concert

The Merrimack Valley Philharmonic is pleased to announce its upcoming Spring concert on March 8th at the Timberlane Performing Arts Center (TPAC). This very special event will showcase piano soloist George Lopez, performing the Johannes Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 15.

Mr. Lopez, a Bowdoin’s Robert Beckwith Artist in Residence, has been a dynamic performer, lecturer, and educator for over 30 years. He is known for his deeply expressive performances of standard repertoire as well as newly-written works. He has toured Philadelphia, New York City, the Bay Area, Seattle, Mexico, and New England, as well as Cuba, to give master classes and concerts with the Aries Trio.

Born in Brooklyn to Mayan parents, Mr. Lopez grew up in Belize, before moving to Texas, where he began to play piano at age 11. By age 16, he received a full scholarship to the Hartt School of Music, followed by graduate work in Paris. He then completed his Master’s Degree cum laude at the Sweelinck Conservatory, Amsterdam.

Mr. Lopez has taken up the baton and conducts the Bowdoin College Orchestra. His “Music in the Museum” series at Bowdoin has consistently sold out to audiences who enjoy his engaging lecture-recitals on the relationship of music to art and ideas.

This concert will also feature guest conductor Alan Yost. Mr. Yost has been the music director for Opera 51 in Concord for the past 13 years and the conductor for the Carlisle Chamber Orchestra for the past five years. Mr. Yost also has a diverse background of being a research pilot, air traffic controller, and computer specialist. The program will conclude with Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8, Op. 88.
